Recording VoIP Calls For Businesses
Software For Recording Your Organization's Phone Calls

By , About.com Guide

Here is a list of some of the most common tools your organization can use for VoIP call recording.

PBXpress

This recorder (it slightly is something more than a call recorder) is specifically designed for PBXs. It offers advanced tools for recording and archiving calls through your PBX. Its use is not subject to the VoIP service provider or hardware. You can download a live-CD demo before buying.

VPI Activ

VPI's Activ! IP call recording software can record VoIP audio and screen interactions with very little impact on network resources. It records all audio into industry standard, non-proprietary GSM file format. It can also be customized and scaled to meet the demands of businesses of all kinds - from small businesses to global enterprises employing in-house, and/or remote agents.

CallRex

CallRex Professional does both VoIP recording and monitoring for businesses, and is designed mainly for IP PBXs. It comes with free evaluation.

eVOip

eVOip is a server software from ASC that captures VoIP packets during a conversation for storing, archiving and reproducing the conversation later. They are specific for LANs and claim to work with any vendor's hardware. You can register online for a free trial version.

IPStudio

The new version (1.2) of IPStudio from IPCelerate is more geared towards being used in corporate and customer-service environments where there can be need of malicious call-recording. One requirement (and maybe a drawback) is an IPsession platform from IPCelerate. The recording then comes automatically.

WinEyeQ

WinEyeQ is a comprehensive VoIP analysis and monitoring tool that is software-based. Its features include VoIP call recording based on SIP and H.323. After recording, it does some enhanced monitoring, including those for QoS. A demo version is available for download.

Cain & Abel

Despite the conflict-imaged impression the name of the software gives, Cain and Abel are two parts of it that work hand in hand. (I wonder why they chose such a name then!) Basically, it is a password recorvery tool, but with a sniffer (Cain is the sniffer while Abel is the brute-forcer) that uses SIP to extract audio conversations and save them in WAV files.

Oreka

OK just like the others, it is a VoIP call recording tool... but the good thing about it is that it is free. Oreka is a open-source software (meaning that it can be modified by anyone - skillful enough to do so - and shared to the world). This way, you get frequent plug-ins, add-ons and updates for it. It has the basic features to operate in a business environment, and is recommended for people who somewhat know the stuff.

Call Shadow

Call Shadow is a relatively cheap and easy-to-use VoIP call recording software for enterprises. It offers an interesting list of features. It can be tried for free for 30 days.

Gabcast

Gabcast is for podcasters. You can record your voice conversations online, create podcasts from them and post them to your blogs. There are three types of account, the basic one of which is free, with a limited amount of space (200 MB) and some features less than the paid versions.

And here is a list of personal tools for VoIP call-recording.
