Guide Review - Vonage Mobile-Cheap International Calls but Not to Everyone and Not on Any Phone
The service works with Wi-Fi, which is quite normal. Wi-Fi calls are free, but to other landlines and mobiles, you are charged. More interestingly, it works with the cellular GSM network, which means you can make your international calls anywhere under the sky where your cellular network covers. This said, don’t forget to add to your call cost that of the cellular part of the call, which is the bridge between your phone and Vonage's Internet-based relay.
The Vonage Mobile costs are interesting. For $25/month, you have unlimited international calling to 60 countries. This is good for heavy international callers, especially those who call one or two destinations mostly. Existing Vonage users get the same stuff for $10 less per month. For others, and for Vonage users calling outside these 60 countries, the per-minute rates for any destination compares favorably with other rates on the market. They are among the most competitive international rates, being way cheaper than those of Skype, for example.
With Vonage Mobile, you don't need a new number. Once you download and install the Vonage Mobile application on your handset, it integrates with your calling system and even contact list and automatically shifts between cellular network and Vonage network whenever required.
To get the application, visit vonagemobile.com, select the phone you are using and leave your cellular number there. You will receive an SMS with the download link. And note that even if you are not subscribed to a Vonage plan, you can use the service by just installing the application, registering, and pay whenever you use the minutes.
