You Can Now Legally Jailbreak Your iPhone

Maybe the ugly name 'jailbreak' should change as well, now that the practice is legalized. To jailbreak an iPhone means to go round the restrictions imposed by the manufacturer to install and use applications other than those authorized and provided by Apple.

iPhone users are now allowed to jailbreak their phones and install third-party applications. This is part of the amendments that the U.S. Copyright Office, a division of the Library of Congress, is bringing about.

This will imply many things, including the ability to use many, if not all, of the mushrooming VoIP applications out there. They will all want to issue a version for the iPhone. This will allow iPhone users to make free and cheap VoIP calls worldwide. Let's just hope AT&T doesn't come with restrictions on the connectivity side, with its 3G weapon. Article

Apple reacted by saying that jailbreaking 'still voids your warranty'. So, will you take the risk?
