Extra Virtual Numbers

By Nadeem Unuth, About.com

Definition:

An extra virtual number is another phone number which you can add to your existing phone line. This way, you can have one phone line with more than one number on it. For example, at home you can receive calls from relatives on your home number, and from clients or business partners on your business number - both on the same line.

As another example, consider someone who has moved from Los Angeles to Houston. On his Houston line, he can add the San Francisco number, with the San Francisco area code. This will allow his friends and relatives back home to phone him in Houston as if they are calling a local number. The user can select an area code of his choice, which is another feature provided by VoIP service providers.
