Area Code Selection

By Nadeem Unuth, About.com

Definition:

The local area code attached to your phone number changes when you move to another area. Your phone number then takes the new area code. This can be annoying in the sense that call may mistakenly miss you. Area Code Selection allows you to select an area code of your choice to attach to your phone number. This will of course depend on whether your service provider covers the area whose area code you have chosen.

There are many reasons why you will want to select an area code. If you are a business, for example, you might choose an area code that looks more professional. If you are moving away from home for a long time (university, work etc.), you can choose the area code of your home town, so that parents and friends can reach you as they did before - through a local call.
