Review
Only very few users have complained about drop in call quality, unlike other VoIP service providers, and many users say it is the strong point of the service. The volume is quite loud and the voice is clear, with very little static. Now since AT&T also provides broadband Internet connection as an ISP, it can be a one-stop shop for many beginners!
The main drawback with AT&T CallVantage up to now has been its price. It has been the most expensive of the common providers. But lately, it has brought its price down to what Vonage is at. Many users signed up with CallVantage for its quality and reliability despite the price, and now, the number of these users will increase. It also offers quite low international rates. However, if you compare the service on the whole, it loses by its fewer number of features, and the number of international destinations included in its unlimited service plan, compared to Vonage, for example.
CallVantage has an interesting lot of features included in the service plans, but not as much as Vonage, Broadvoice and Packet8. Compared to Vonage, for example, CallVantage lags behind in number of features by ten. So for users who care a lot about features, they have to take this little but important detail into consideration.
Like any other VoIP service provider, many users have complained about the after sales service of AT&T CallVantage, especially its technical support. But now, things have improved a lot.
Another important detail to note about the service is that the system is slightly more challenging to setup and install before first use. But they offer technical assistance, against payment of course.
AT&T CallVantage offers a nice and robust web interface for call and feature management.
Concerning the fees, if you order the ATA offered by the service, you pay a one-time activation fee of $29.99. You should add to this the shipping. If you disconnect before one year of service, you the same amount as disconnection fee. Curiously enough, CallVantage offers no money-back guarantee.
