Remote Management of VoIP Networks With Adtran

Tuesday December 16, 2008
Adtran Netvanta systems for VoIP deployment in SMBs shined with its integration of nearly all functionalities into one single box, thereby considerably reducing the cost of ownership. This week, Adtran launched their remote management platform that is supposed to offer increased efficiency and lower operation costs for all users. The new platform, called Adtran n-Command MSP, allows remote monitoring and management of Adtran networking solutions.

However, the n-Command MSP does add some weight to the cost ownership. In contrast, Netvanta was rather a relief in that sense. As advertised by Adtran, The n-Command MSP system, including the NetVanta Server 450 and licensing and maintenance for the first 12 months, has a list price of $8,995. This is not very expensive in itself for a system of that kind, specially with the features and the fact that Adtran has become the leader in this field, but it is certainly not within reach of small businesses. So to say, remote monitoring and management of VoIP systems is not hitting small business level soon. Press release

Update: After I published this blog, Adtran contacted me for a precision on the MSP product. They want us to be aware "that the MSP product was not meant for the SMB market at all -- this is strictly a separate product geared specifically towards managed service providers and resellers wanting to offer managed services."
