Truphone Cheapens BlackBerry Calls
Tuesday November 25, 2008
It is the first to bring VoIP to the iPhone, and now it is doing so for BlackBerry devices. Truphone is a mobile VoIP service that focuses mainly on high-end mobile phones like business Nokia phones, the iPhone and now BlackBerry phones. Truphone says more phone models will be added to the list soon. So, now BlackBerry users can cut down their call costs and save up to 80% using VoIP. What's similar between Truphone and other mobile VoIP services of its like (e.g. Yeigo) is that calls between Truphone users are completely free, even if international. The difference is that Truphone does not rely solely on a wireless data network like Wi-Fi and 3G to place calls. In the absence of such connectivity, it can route calls partly through GSM networks. Truphone therefore makes VoIP really mobile. On the downside, Truphone does not support a majority of phone models, and the BlackBerry service exists in only a handful of countries so far. But these shortcomings are being worked upon at Truphone and the list of devices and countries will get longer soon.
